You've probably seen many steel homes before. You just didn't know it!
Steel homes are not some type of industrial building or airplane hangar, built with heavy "red iron" hot-rollled beams. Steel homes look no different than any other house once they're completed.
HOWEVER, THEY ARE VERY DIFFERENT!
What they are is actually STEEL FRAMED HOMES, made of light gauge galvanized cold-rolled steel which has been bent into channels. Each channel, sometimes called a 'C Channel', is a substitute for a wood member, whether it be a stud, joist, rafter or truss. These channels are fastened to "track", which is used as sills and blocking.
There is no question that the uniformity, quality, strength and lifespan of steel C channels is far superior to wood.
